Hello Kirsten,
My cat was diagnosed in May 2020. I joined a diabetes forum, but left them coz I was not happy with their protocol, and her blood glucose were still always high. They followed a 'SLIDING SCALES" which never worked for my cat. Before I found your website- she was always in 500-600. Until I found your website. I have been reading your protocol over and over again. I even printed few copies. and bring them with me even in my office and left another copy at home. I then followed everything you have mentioned in your protocol as well as the diet, Most especially the " "CONSISTENT DOSING "- until I was able to regulate her blood glucose. You are perfectly right, Sliding scales do not work, but Consistent dosing is very effective. I was scared in the beginning, but I was persistent to do what you said. Today, 1/27/2021 - she gets in remission. I switched her diet to Identity95, and she had no insulin for 14 days.
Thank you very much for your effort and time and caring to share this with us!
I hope that many pet owners will do the same love and care you did to Tilly!
Lots of Love,
Len & Momo (the Cat) Go

Thank you for all the wonderful information you have put into this site. Tilly was so fortunate to have you loving her and caring for her and my heart goes out to you for your loss.
My cat was diagnosed in June of 2019 and on Vetsulin until mid-January of 2020. Since we switched to Lantus I have seen much improvement, pre-shots often under 200, spending hours in BG numbers under 200 and even dipping down to under 100 sometimes. Lantus is definitely working better for him and his health. He has also finally started playing more and eating less at meal time. As your experience proves, there is always hope.

For your followers:
My 9 y.o. cat developed DM post acute pancreatitis. In the USA, Lantus is prohibitively expensive: $110-150/3 ml syringe. Got several expired ones from my patient long time ago ("just in case") with exp. date of 2013! Was refrigerated at all times; clear w/o any sedimen. It's been working on my cat like a charm! Has no apparent strength decrease (non-scientific observation, though).
Just FYI for everybody.
Side note: I would NOT EVER use expired insulin on humans, as one never knows...

Fabia

Thank you for the information it is extremely helpful. Our cat Murphy is on Lantus 1iu BID. He was diagnosed 5 days ago and his BG was 10.1mmol/L or about 195 mg/Dl. He won't eat tonight so I'm hesitant on giving the shot as this was at his shot time so his nadir may have been very low. Since he won't eat tonite no matter what tricks I try I decided not to inect and wait until AM if he eats. I may have to get into syring feeding tomorrow morning. Thoughts. Thanks so much!! Bill

Hello and thank you for sharing all of the valuable information to help others.
I wanted to ask though, with all Ive been reading, is that we should be aiming to keep a diabetic cats glucose between 200 and 300 but I see that you are recommenending to keep it much lower. I am confused now on where to aim for the safest
Range. Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you for the information. This has been very helpful. I'm fighting on getting my cat on Lantus since vet has decided to go with Vetsulin. Sending greeting from Mexico.

Thank you so much for providing your's and Tilly's story. It is giving us so much help with our handling of our sweet cat who is on Lantus. I want to add that Lantus as a vial is over $300 for us but we were able to find a Walmart in the USA that would sell us one Lantus solostar insulin pen at a time that we use like a vial, drawing out insulin with a syringe. While it holds less, it cost $80 which is more manageable for us. Just wanted to share that. Precious Tilly was blessed to have you. Thank you so much.

Thank you, thank you for this website! I'm on the FDMB, and this has all helped me and my cat, Girlie, so much. We've still got a long way to go, but we're seeing progress.
